2017 Makeup No Buy: The Final Update

If you were following along with my 2017 makeup no buy, I apologize for leaving you hanging. About midway through the year, I went through a few personal challenges and makeup simply wasn't even on my radar. I purchased a few selective items during a sale here and there but overall, I added very little new product to my collection. I purged quite a bit as well. Overall, I was extremely pleased with my results. If I were grading my performance, I would say that I earned a solid B+. I am going to continue my no-buy into the new year with the same "rules" of only purchasing for special occasions, major sales or rare launches. My focus has completely shifted in recent months and I no longer have the desire to buy everything that catches my eye. I  simply don't need it. While my love and appreciation for beauty will always remain, there comes a time when you must take an inventory of your lifestyle and priorities and realize what you need is more important than what you want. I would rather put my money toward savings, books and travel. Collect moments, not things.

2017 Makeup No Buy Update: April/May Temptations

Please overlook my lack of makeup updates as my mind has been preoccupied with hockey (Let's Go Pens! Back-to-back Stanley Cup Champions!). April was a complete and utter disaster in terms of sticking to my no-buy. I expected this to be one of the most challenging months of the year due to the Sephora spring sale along with 50% off through my freelancing. The good news? May was the easiest month so far. I cleared out my collection and gave my little cousin who is in high school a massive bag of perfectly good products that weren't getting the attention it deserved. It felt wonderful to narrow down my stash. I can honestly say that everything I currently have is something that I cherish and will make the effort to put into regular rotation. I still have a huge collection but it is much more pared down. I wouldn't exactly say it's well-edited but it's a fair downsize for a maximalist such as myself.

I am at the place in my collecting years where few products are tempting me. There really isn't much that strikes my fancy. In order for me to be attracted to something, it truly has to be unique or new to the market. Here are a few of the items that recently managed to catch my eye:


Origins GinZing Energy-Boosting Treatment Lotion Mist, $22

This is technically a skincare product but with the heat and humidity finally swinging into my area, I'm all for spritzes of hydration. I love a good mist and think this is a nice one for prepping your makeup application. It's especially good for those who have to be up and out the door early.

Dose of Colors Baked Browns Eyeshadow Palette, $32

I don't own anything from this brand (I would be content in never buying another liquid lipstick, something it's known for, ever again) but this palette struck me as very well put together. The colors are definitely my type but therein lies the problem. I probably have several dupes already within my collection. I have yet to buy any eyeshadow palettes in 2017 and it's looking like that trend might make it all the way through the end of the year. I simply do not need anymore eyeshadow...especially warm tones. It's all I have. Drawers of browns, nudes and sepias. Enough is enough.

Physicians Formula Butter Bronzer, $15

For the past few seasons, this has been the bronzer that everyone and their next-door neighbor hasn't stopped talking about. Physicians Formula is one of my favorite drugstore brands and I love the few bronzers I already have from them. I'm not sure that this one will be all that different but it has been on my list long enough. I'll probably add it to my collection sometime in the next year or so when I see it on sale. Physicians Formula produces good quality powders but it is rather expensive for the drugstore.

Etude House Glitter Pigment Eyeshadow, $10

I'm not really a glitter eyeshadow type of gal these days but it's nice to have a couple options for victory parades and celebratory things of that nature. You never know when a party or costume might call for a dash of sparkle. The packaging of this one was too cute to miss. It sold out before temptation got the best of me. If I make an order from Etude House before the close of the year and this item is still available, consider it snatched.

Gucci Nude Freesia Sheer Blushing Powder, $49

I adore the Gucci products that I have...extremely good quality and incredibly beautiful packaging. Unfortunately, the blush that I picked out online a few years ago, is way too deep for my complexion. A $50 blush is a commitment. If I can find someone to sell my original blush to, I might justify replacing it with a more neutral shade like this easy-to-wear color from their newest collection.

Clarins Instant Light Lip Comfort Oil in Honey Glam, $26

The Clarins lip oils are among my favorite products in my entire collection. I have all of the shades with the exception of a couple. I intend to add Honey Glam and Tangerine into my collection before the end of the year.



Items I recently 'shopped from my own stash':

Lancome Belle de Teint Bronzer in 01, $45

I was on the fence about purchasing this beauty but I'm so glad that I did. It's a gorgeous little palette that creates a very natural bronzed glow. The powder trio is very flattering on fair skin and the packaging is a delight to use.

MAC Eyeshadow, $16-$32

My MAC eyeshadows are some of the oldest products in my collection. Powders never go bad if they're kept sealed and in proper storage areas. I began adding MAC single and holiday eyeshadows to my collection long before the notion of palettes grew in popularity. It requires a bit more forethought to pair singles together but the quality of the shadows have definitely held up and stood the test of time.

Sephora Collection Perfection Mist Airbrush Foundation, $28

I've wanted to use the Dior Airflash foundation for years but the lightest color is still a few shades too deep for my fair skin. Dior's version is far more expensive so I was thrilled to see that there was finally an affordable alternative on the market (and with a much wider color range!). Believe it or not, the lightest shade in the launch, the one that I purchased (Cream), might actually be a bit too light for me. That never happens! PS: I also recommend Sephora's mist blush.

NARS Highlighter in Albatross, $30

This is one of the first highlighters I ever purchased. It's a bit loud and in your face but it sure is a beauty.

Tarte Smooth Operator Amazonian Clay Finishing Setting Powder, $35

I was happy to finish a couple deluxe sample compacts of this. I have dry skin but this is excellent for setting the under eyes or anywhere that might produce a bit of  shine in the heat and humidity. When my samples run out, I will definitely be purchasing the full size. Luckily for my wallet, a little goes a long way.

2017 Makeup No Buy Update: March Temptations

March was a so-so month in terms of my willpower. I slipped a few times when sale prices were too good to pass up. Overall, I did fairly well. I know April will be a challenge with a few more major sales and Easter bonuses set to kick off but I'm taking it one day at a time.



Jouer Long-Wear Lip Topper in Skinny Dip, $16

I've seen this cult-favorite product for ages on Pinterest and finally decided to try it out when I saw it on Forever 21's website. It's an interesting formula and satisfied my curiosity.


Estee Lauder Bronze Goddess Illuminating Powder Highlighter in Heat Wave, $45

When this product originally launched a few years back, it was all the rage. I remember purchasing it and actually returning it (something I rarely, if ever, do with cosmetics). But the packaging this time around was too much to resist. I also snagged it during bonus time.


Guerlain Summer 2017 Terracotta Sun Trio Bronzer (Limited Edition), $56

I've been wanting to add a Guerlain bronzer to my collection for eons. I saw this new one advertised on Chic Profile. It looks like a wonderful blend for lighter complexions.


Bobbi Brown Art Stick Liquid Lip in Honey Bare, $28

I am a huge fan of the original art stick and was curious to try this formula. The color wasn't exactly what I had hoped but I am interested in playing around with the full range of colors in person later this month.


Stila Magnificent Metals Glitter & Glow Liquid Eyeshadow, $24

I think I might order one of these for the upcoming Sephora VIB sale. It looks like an impressive sparkle formula that is perfect for adding a touch of pizzazz to an evening eye look.


Too Faced Highlighter in You Light Up My Life, $30

If it's a heart-shaped product and from Too Faced, I can't help myself. I adore the blushes that are in similar packaging and knew as soon as this product was released that one would make its way into my highlighter drawer. It's not the best formula in the world but that Polly Pocket style packaging makes me happy.




Items I 'shopped from my own stash' this month:

Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara, $23

I've gone through more tubes of this than I can count. I'd rather not spend money on higher-end mascaras because of its limited shelf-life, but this mascara is worth every penny.


Viseart Eyeshadow Palette in 01 Neutral Matte, $80

If I could only keep one eyeshadow palette, this would be it. Throw in a few ColourPop singles to add shine to the lids and I would be satisfied. It's pricey so I try to get as much use out of it as I can. The superior quality is definitely noticeable.


theBalm Mary-Lou Manizer, $24

I've been a major fan of highlighters since I started to wear makeup in the late 90s...long before it became the trend it is today. While I have grown to prefer a subtle highlight, this cult favorite packs a pretty good punch. I always receive compliments when I wear it. A flattering shade for those with fair-light complexions.


Maybelline Expert Wear Eyebrow Pencils (Medium Brown), $4

Despite having an array of high-end brow products, this drug store cheap thrill has been a staple in my collection for decades. It performs just as well as my luxury products. The Medium Brown shade is ideal for red or auburn hair. Only a few dollars and easy to find. You can't beat this classic.


Lancome Miracle Cushion Foundation, $47

I hate the feeling of heavy makeup. I love cushions because they have the weight of tinted moisturizer but the coverage of a light foundation. This has been the best color match (010) and formula I have tried. I have gone through a couple compacts which speaks volumes. As much as I love makeup, I don't wear it every day. You simply do not get a lot of product from this...at all. And what little liquid you do get is heavily absorbed by the sponges. When you factor in the price per ounce, that makes this one of the most expensive foundations on the market. What a sin! If you're able to find this on sale, stock up (I got mine last summer for 50% off).


Bobbi Brown Nude Finish Illuminating Powder (in Nude), $52

I've been wanting to try this in the Porcelain shade as a finishing powder but I have enough that I really love from brands like Hourglass, YSL and Guerlain. Instead, I have been enjoying the Nude shade to add warmth after foundation. I consider it a magical combination of ultra light bronzer, highlighter, contour, and finishing powder all in one radiant finish.

2017 Makeup No Buy Update: February Temptations

 So, February was a bit of a disaster for my no-buy. I had a feeling it would be one of the most challenging months of the year for me. My birthday was on the 1st, I still had gift cards leftover from Christmas, I always treat myself to something on Valentine's Day, tax returns, new releases, the list goes on... Lots of good excuses. Some valid reasons.

 I was proud of my flawless track record in January and that has inspired me to continue on in March. For Lent, I'm attempting to not shop for anything. I've already slipped once but you'll see in the product descriptions below for my February temptations why that might be.



Dior Addict Lip Glow in Berry, $33

I have this lippie in a couple other shades. I reach for the lighter color most often. I thought this berry (which in actuality is closer to a bright pink) would be a nice addition to my collection. It's on the list but I might hold off on this one all together.



Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer, $54

I have been a major proponent of the Smashbox Primer Water but lately, I've noticed that my blush and highlighter doesn't seem to last very long. I heard so many good things about this primer which doubles as a lip and eye base. I got a sample and was really impressed with the results. The price tag is very steep though. I might put this on my list for the upcoming Sephora VIB sale.



Lancome Rose Blush Highlighter

I was going to pass on this highlighter but the unique packaging and limited edition hype won me over. I ended up using a gift card on it and acquired it while Lancome was in gift (securing a new Aplum blush which was missing out of my collection). The packaging is pretty but it barely fits in my drawer. I haven't reached for it. I see that these HTF beauties are going for quite a pretty penny on ebay. I might have to part with this and do the flip. Spoiler Alert: I may have cheated on my Lenten no-shop to get the Estee Lauder Heatwave Highlighter. I might flip this as well or keep it in place of the Lancome flower concoction.



Chanel Camelia de Chanel Illuminating Powder Highlighter, $70

Another highlighter that grabbed my attention was this limited edition release from Chanel. I have been collecting Chanel highlighters for about 10 years now. The past few seasons didn't include one which was very disappointing. When I saw the red packaging and the golden sheen, I knew I had to procure this into my collection.



Wet N Wild Cushion Highlighter, $6

I love anything with a cushion formulation inside cutesy packaging. This adorable little release from Wet N Wild was very tempting. I passed on it during a Walgreens sale but it was just so adorable!



Chanel Rouge Coco Gloss, $30

The last thing I need is lip gloss but the new Chanel lip gloss formula piqued my interest. I'm glad I held off from ordering any before seeing them in person because I'm not a fan of the new packaging, formula, or color range. I have a ton of Glossimers but never reach for them for similar reasons. Chanel does lipstick incredibly well but they just can't seem to master how to top them off.



Too Faced Peach Oil Lip Gloss in Papa Don't Peach, $19

I had no desire to jump into the peach craze from Too Faced. Enough is enough. But then I smelled this lip gloss. The color and formula is smooth. I love anything with an oil so this is definitely on my list for a future sale.



Clarins 4-Color All-In-One Liner Pen, $30

I have enough liners for 15 women so for me to be tempted by one it has to be really good. At first I thought this clicky pen was just a gimmick but it has a solid construction and decent formula for 4 very wearable shades (black, brown and cobalt blue eyeliner along with a creamy nude lipliner). The packaging reminds me of the pens I loved so dearly when I was in elementary school. I'm a nostalgic type of person who has an affinity for pens and makeup. I also happen to love Clarins so it's no surprise that I caved and bought this during gift.



Sephora Perfection Mist Airbrush Foundation, $28

The Dior Airflash foundation is a cult favorite for a reason. I got my sister hooked. It's a very unique product that until recently was not duped. I've always wanted to use it but it's very expensive and the lightest color is still a few shades too deep for me (the pains of being fair-skinned). This alternative from Sephora Collection is a fraction of the price and the color range is far superior. As for the formula, it seems to have potential. I might give it a try in the future. I tend to go for light cushions and BB creams but my skin has been acting up lately and it might be beneficial to have a fuller coverage option in my arsenal.



Etude House Wonder Park Candy Highlighter, $12

I love my Etude House goodies. My best friend is traveling to Korea later this year and you better believe I'm sending her with a list of places she has to go to shop. K-beauty is all the rage and for good reason. This product is more of a color correcting finishing powder than a highlighter. The Etude House spring collection is so charming. I can appreciate anything with a holographic theme park motif as I have so many wonderful memories from growing up with summers spent at Kennywood Park.



Rimmel Lash Accelerator Serum, $10

Speaking of Etude House, I have noticed that their lash serum isn't as effective on brows as it is on my lashes. I've been wanting to experiment with a few other affordable alternatives. This one jumped out at me on Pinterest. It's on the drugstore watch list.



Milani Retouch & Erase Lite Lift Concealer, $9

In keeping with the drug store, Milani has been one of my favorites for years. There have been several new releases from Milani (the lip scrub, balm, primers, setting sprays, highlighters) that have tempted me this month! I've stayed strong and didn't cave on any of them but they're definitely taking up residency in the back of my mind.




Items I 'shopped from my own stash' this month:

Too Faced The Little Black Book of Bronzers

I'm a major book lover so of course when this product was released I snatched it right up. It's very slim but takes up a lot of square footage in my bronzer drawer. I don't always reach for it but I've recently made the effort. I love the lighter shades that are harder to find from other brands. Too Faced knows how to brew a good bronzer. I definitely recommend all of their singles.



Stila Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner in Alloy, $22

I don't reach for liquid eyeliner very often despite having the full range from Stila. I'm trying to use them more often before they wither away. I wore this particular charcoal shade when I went to see the new 50 Shades sequel. You know you're a junkie when you match your makeup to the movie you're going to see.



MAC Fix +, $24

It took me a long time to finally grasp the best way to use this product. Many people think that it's a setting spray but it's actually for finishing. The difference? It won't prolong the wear of your makeup but it will dilute any powder or cakiness that may have occurred in the 'face beating' process.



Urban Decay Super Saturated High Gloss Lip Color

When these were released a number of years ago, I instantly fell in love with their formula. I was sad to see them discontinued but promptly bought backups and the remaining colors when they went on major clearance. I don't buy backups of products pretty much ever but I do have a few from this range. I think Urban Decay made a major mistake by tossing these from their lineup. Some of my favorite lippies ever made! I'm definitely trying to get as much use out of them as possible.



Maybelline Color Tattoo Eyeshadow in Bad to the Bronze, $7

I have quite a few of these in my collection but I don't reach for them very often anymore because my ColourPop, Dior, Lancome and Chanel bouncy cream shadows have taken their place. They've dried up a bit but a drop of Inglot Duraline brought them right back to life. If you have a cream shadow, liner or primer that has solidified, I can't recommend this product highly enough. One drop is all you need to magically transform a tough substance into a good-as-new creamy consistency. Bad to the Bronze has always been my favorite shade from the bunch. It was fun to reintroduce it back into the rotation.



Maybelline Baby Lips Lip Balm in Pink Punch, $4

I've been trying to switch up my lip balms and use as many as possible this winter. I forgot that the Baby Lips aren't just cute but they have some decent coloring. I have several but enjoy this pink shade the most. Very moisturizing.



Hourglass Ambient Lighting Edit Surreal Light Palette, $80

This was a pricier item and I want to make sure that I'm not just admiring its gorgeous packaging but actually using it. Hourglass has the best powders in the business. Worth every penny. I love that this palette is essentially a one-stop-shop for the face. If I needed to, I could use this and not have to reach for anything else. Finishing powder, blushes, bronzer, and highlighter all in one convenient, elegant design.



Forever 21 Macaroon Lip Balm

These precious little lippies have been popular for some time. I absolutely love their sweet colors and darling packaging and picked up quite a few from Forever 21 several years ago. I've been trying to get as much use out of them as I can. When the product is gone, they make for charming little pill cases or can be repurposed for other products.

2017 Makeup No Buy Update: January Temptations

We've all heard of the term 'Sober January'. In my case, I didn't put down the booze but the beauty products. I made a resolution this year to not buy any new makeup items...well, who am I kidding? I knew that would be nearly impossible given my level of addiction. Rules were made to be broken, after all. I will, of course, make concessions for limited edition releases that I would regret not adding to my collection and I'm sure I will partake in a few major sales. But for the most part, my cosmetics consumption will be drastically cut! I'm talking a 90% decrease in purchases! This is a lot for someone who freelances in the industry and is constantly surrounded by the lure of new releases at a discounted price. One of my favorite hobbies is watching YouTube beauty videos which is also infiltrated with temptation.

January was a "no exceptions" month meaning there were no loop holes for me to jump through. Not only did I give up shopping for makeup this month, I hardly bought anything at all! I kept track of every dollar I spent regardless of how big or small the purchase may have been. I limited my consumption to basic entertainment necessities (concert tickets for future dates that I didn't want to sell out, birthday dinners, etc.). As they say, "spend time, not money."

I've been keeping track on my Pinterest Wish List board of the things that I normally would have splurged on. It will be interesting to see how many items are added but not purchased by the end of the year. If anything is still on there that I'm severely lusting after by the holidays, I may treat myself a bit after Christmas. I won't go crazy with buying though because that would only negate the progress made all year. But a girl deserves a little reward now and then. Without further ado, here are the products that I was tempted by during the first month of my makeup no-buy:


Clinique Happy Gelato Body Cream in Sugared Petals, $35

I'm not including skincare in my makeup no-buy but because January was a month that I tried to refrain from purchasing most things, I withheld picking this up. The scent is lovely and the adorable packaging makes me so happy. It reminds me of something the Korean beauty lines would produce. I will treat myself to this for Valentine's Day.


Chanel Spring 2017 Blush in 370 Elegance, $45

I freelanced for Chanel in January so of course the new Spring collection caught my eye. Chanel knows how to make a blusher and this beauty is no exception. It's the most natural shade with just the right amount of warmth and as its name suggests, elegance. I need to clear out my blush collection but I have a feeling this one will be on my mind for months. If it weren't for my no-buy, I definitely would be using birthday money to procure its place in my collection. I believe it's limited edition. The temptation is real.


Clarins Limited Edition Skin Illusion Blush, $21.50

The packaging sold me. I adore a lot of my Clarins makeup but I prefer the range for what they're known for, skincare. I have some gift cards so this might be a Valentine's Day cheat. Put a heart on something and I'm sold.


Clarins Limited Edition Lovely Energizer Lip Balm, $20

Along with its accompanying blush, this limited edition lippie has tempted me. Because it won't be out for long, I might have to treat myself to this with a gift card. Not only does this product hydrate but it also leaves behind a beautiful pink tint that matches to your body's chemistry. I have similar products in my collection but the packaging is too cute to pass up....and it's technically skincare. ;)


ColourPop Moonwalk Eyeshadow, $5

This is a gorgeous shade of goldish-green that I absolutely would have purchased if I weren't doing my no-buy. I have too many ColourPop eyeshadows. This I know. I will step away from the shadow. If it's still available at the end of the year and I'm still thinking about it, Moonwalk will be mine.


Tarte Shape Tape Concealer, $24

It wasn't until the past year or so that I felt I even needed to wear concealer. I don't like to collect them or foundation but this product seemed to be on everyone's best of 2016 list. Concealers don't excite me like other products but this one definitely sparked my interest. If I freelance for Tarte at some point in the year,  I will be sure to play around with this. Maybe an end-of-the-year purchase or VIB sale splurge if I like it.


Chanel Bronze Universal, $50

A cult classic that seems to be having a resurgence in popularity. I've always thought this bronzer made fair-skinned people look orange but many of the lighter ladies I follow keep mentioning it. I recently made a sample of it when I worked for Chanel. I'll put it on my maybe list. I tend to not like the feel of cream products on my skin but the way that this is whipped is very light in texture. I think the ColourPop cream bronzers helped to ease me back into the notion.


Chanel Rouge Allure Ink Matte Liquid Lipstick in Amoureux, $37

I just got rid of a ton of liquid lipsticks. I just don't care for the way they look and feel on me. I think the trend is so tired and unflattering and wish it would go away once and for all. But this formula isn't bad and I love the feel of the frosted glass container. This particular shade, unlike most liquid lipsticks, is subtle, natural and complimentary. I'm not tempted much but it's on the list.


Chanel Tinted Top Coat Nail Polish in Black Metamorphosis, $28

I'm not necessarily including nail polish in my makeup no-buy but I am trying to keep my spending to a minimum. When you have as many bottles as I do, there are few colors that get released that you don't have a dupe for or something similar. Black Metamorphosis is unique in that is deepens and darkens the color of whatever polish you have on. It can also be worn alone for an interesting grey hue. I think I'm going to hold off on this for a couple months. If I'm still thinking about it in the Spring and it's still available, I might let myself get it because it's unlike anything I've ever owned.


ColourPop Pressed Eyeshadow Palette in Lo-Key, $18

When I set out to do my makeup no-buy, I knew the one thing that would tempt me more than anything would be if ColourPop released regular pressed eyeshadow or traditional tubed lipsticks. Within days, this little gem was released. I asked for it for my birthday. Loop holes. The last thing I need is another eyeshadow palette (especially a warm-toned orange one) but as a ColourPop afficionado, I had to have this in my collection.


Dior Lip Scrub Sweet Exfoliating Balm, $33

When I freelanced for Dior a couple weeks ago, I was sure to try this out before I even considered buying it in February as a birthday/Valentine's Day treat. It's skincare, okay? It works very well and leaves behind the loveliest pink tint. I've been on the hunt for the best lip scrubs and this is a very gentle one that instantly works and can be used on the go. No mess. Highly recommend!


MAC Lip Scrubtious in Candied Nectar, $16

Speaking of lip scrubs, I was excited to see these in person. I'm glad I was able to experiment because the Candied Nectar scent surprised me as my favorite. It smells divine! I will be getting this with birthday money. I have been disappointed by the past few lip scrubs I've tried so hopefully this will surpass my expectations.




While I do get a substantial discount on these brands and always use Ebates to get cash back when I shop online, the total retail value saved from not purchasing these products would have been over $350! 

All in all, I'd say that January was an easy month. I only freelanced a few times so many products were out of sight, out of mind. With the holidays just over and my birthday at the start of Feburary, I tend to not spend a lot in January as it is. There weren't a lot of releases that tempted me. I know that as Spring approaches, things will become much more difficult when the collections start to launch and the sales pop up. May the force be with me!

Anastasia Beverly Hills Contour Kit, $40

I haven't reached for this in quite some time. I usually let my bronzer do the contouring job but on days when you have the extra time, this is a handy little kit.


Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Brightener, $7

I love the Age Rewind Concealer but I initially wasn't a fan of the Brightener. I thought it was too pink. But if you use it in conjunction with the concealer and immediately blend it in, it works fairly well.


Too Faced Chocolate Bar Palette, $49

I love my Too Faced palettes. They have an incredible eyeshadow formula and such sweet packaging. But I have admittedly put them to the side in exchange for some of my newer purchases. I enjoyed using my Chocolate palettes this past month. I have no desire whatsoever to get the Peach palette. Enough is enough!


Chanel Le Volume Mascara, $32

I had several samples of this mascara and decided to give it another shot. I really liked the way Le Volume paired with the Too Faced Better Than Sex mascara. I find Le Volume to be very thickening. While Better Than Sex purports to also be a volumizing mascara, I find that it also delivers very well in the lengthening department.


Inglot Gel Eyeliner in 77 (Deep Black), $15

When it comes to eyeliner, I almost always prefer pencil over liquid. Gel? Rarely. It just seems like an extra step with a brush that isn't necessary and can produce a less than natural result. But when you want a little extra va va voom, this gel liner delivers a sultry, long-lasting line. It is a very deep shade of black that somehow does not look harsh and it won't budge. The price is reasonable, the quality is fantastic and you get a lot of product. Definitely a cult favorite for a reason!

2016 Beauty Favorites: My Most Reached For Products

I've had several favorite beauty products of the year including both new releases and reliable classics. I haven't listed everything but instead chose to highlight the items that immediately came to mind when I thought of what I reached for most this year. Some items were limited edition but I believe everything can still be purchased online via one source or another. When you're a major makeup lover and collector like me, you have a lot of makeup to choose from. The fact that these products were routinely used speaks volumes. I give each and every mention my golden stamp of approval.

Side Note: I'm actually attempting a no-buy for the entirety of 2017! Rules were made to be broken so I will of course make concessions for any necessities or limited edition releases that I would regret missing out on, but for the most part, this year will be free of buying new beauty items. If I do pick up something special, I will be giving up something else in its place. Makeup hoarding collecting is one of my major hobbies so wish me luck. It will be interesting to see how I "shop my stash" and what products turn up (and likely repeat) as favorites at the end of this year.


Primer:

Smashbox Photo Finish Primer Water, $32

This has been my go-to for the past couple years. I always prep my skin with a fast-absorbing gel cream moisturizer and top it off with a few spritzes of this primer. It's excellent for dry skin and really helps to give the makeup a hydrated, smooth base without interfering with various foundation formulas.

Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion, $20 $8

A staple in my collection for years, this is my favorite eyeshadow primer. UD recently updated its packaging so you can stock up with the discounted price. One tube carries on for ages. I prefer the older packaging so I picked up enough backups to last for years.


Eyeshadow:

ColourPop Singles, $5

These little cheap thrills (which are anything but cheap in terms of quality) have transformed my makeup collection. I became a bit addicted to procuring seemingly every new release. I might have bought a few too many but you can't beat the price or the unique formula. It makes doing your makeup a little more fun and proves that you don't have to break the bank to find something you love. A few of my favorite shades: Desert, Nillionaire, Game Face, Drift, So Quiche.

Dior Mono Shadow in Meteore, $31

I love adding this stunning bit of sparkle over simple eye looks to give it that added touch of glamour. The formula is a dream to put into place and it's oh so flattering in making eyes pop. A grown up shimmer that's subtle yet striking enough to wear from day to night.

Chanel Fall Quad, 268 Candeur et Experience, $61

This past fall, Lucia Pica's debut collection for Chanel got me really excited. While these shades have become easily dupable, I couldn't pass up the chance to add this beauty to my collection. The colors are definitely 'me' shades and very wearable. It's surprisingly Chanel's first ever all matte quad and what a winner it is.

Chanel Illusion d'Ombre Eyeshadow in Rouge Brule (Limited Edition), $36

Also from the fall collection, I missed out on this stunner and had to resort to an international seller out of Russia to obtain its wondrous presence in my collection. A more expensive version of ColourPop's White Rabbit or Game Face perhaps, but I would have thought about this product for years and regretted it had I not tracked it down. Its coppery hue has my name on it and it really goes so perfectly with the rest of the warm palettes in my collection.

Viseart Neutral Matte Palette 01, $80

Overpriced with slightly flimsy packaging but the formula of these shadows are superb. What I love about this palette is its foolproof. The shades blend together seamlessly while creating a natural look with just the right amount of pigmentation. If you love mattes, this is one of those palettes that you won't need any other eyeshadows to complete your look. I often use it on its own or grab a couple ColourPop shadows or a Natasha Denona kit to add shine and/or sparkle to the lid.

Tarte Tartelette In Bloom Palette, $46

While Tarte isn't my favorite eyeshadow formula on the market (I was not a fan at all of the original Tartelette palette-- too cool toned, too matronly), I found myself reaching for this quite often. The shades are very flattering and wearable from day-to-night and the packaging is just so bright and beautiful.



Eyeliner:

When I was in my teens and early 20s, I rarely went without a classic liquid black or brown eyeliner. But as I've gotten older, I prefer the ease of use and results achieved from a pencil. I like smudging my pencil into the lash line to create a sultrier look. It's nice not to fuss about creating a balanced wing that might be a bit too harsh for day or peel throughout its wear-time. I tend to wear neutral eyeshadows so I enjoy bringing color into my look with a pop on the top or bottom lash line. While I enjoy wearing seemingly every color liner under the sun, I usually go for traditional blacks, browns, bronzes and my favorite, golds! I rarely if ever attempt to put product on my water line (my eyes are way too sensitive), so I can't speak to how these products perform in that regard. But these are excellent for regular use.

Too Faced Perfect Eyes Waterproof Eyeliner, $18

This shade of black is very deep and the formula glides effortlessly on the lash line. It wears incredibly well without any fading. Despite being waterproof (which I tend to avoid), it's easy to remove.

Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay-In-Place Eye Pencil in Gold, Burgundy Suede, $24

This formula has topped my other favorite eye liners from Urban Decay. They apply easily and wear beautifully. The color range is also very nice. I love the opulent Gold shade and adore the bronzed hue from Burgundy Suede. If I didn't have a drawer filled with liners, I'd add a few more to my collection.

Elizabeth Arden Beautiful Precision Beautiful Color Eye Liner in Emerald, $22

Whenever I wear this emerald green liner, I always get compliments. It looks gorgeous over neutral warm eyeshadow and really makes my eye color pop. Its formula is very smooth. For fans of retractable liners, this is a great avenue to explore.

Etude House Bling Bling Eye Stick, $5

I adore these little shadow sticks. Etude House is always having incredible sales in addition to their fabulous prices so I was able to pick these up in every shade. I like to wear them as liner on the lower lash line or as a pop of color on the lid.



Mascara:

Too Faced Better Than Sex, $23

This has been one of my favorite mascaras for the past few years. It's always reliable in delivering length and volume without looking too made up.

Bobbi Brown Smokey Eye, $30

I reached for this mascara the most overall this year. It's a bit overpriced but it really is a good one.



Brows:

Anastasia Perfect Brow Pencil in Soft Brown, $23

I liked this pencil a lot this year. I'm not sure if it's my favorite but its ease of use made me reach for it quite often. If you're looking at the Anastasia line, I definitely recommend this or the pomade over the Brow Wiz as you get so much more product for your money. The Brow Wiz should really only be used to fill in gaps on an already full area not define the entire brow.

Anastasia Tinted Brow Gel in Brunette, $22

I love this product for adding a bit of dimension and color to my brows. It also sets the pencil nicely. I have naturally dark eyebrows which is apparently unusual for a redhead but I still like to give my brows some additional shine.



Face/Foundation/Powders:

I hate the feeling of wearing a mask. Heavy foundation is not for me. I have fairly good skin (knock on wood) but it's also dry. It seems to reject most foundations (when I can even find one that is light enough). I'd rather use a tinted moisturizer, BB cream or cushion to even out any redness rather than create a barrier between my natural complexion with a thick foundation.

Tarte BB Tinted Moisturizer, $36

This has been one of my favorite face products for the past couple years. I love that it's easy enough to use with your fingers but it can slightly be built up with a sponge or brush. It makes the skin even and hydrated and is really lovely for those who don't want a medium or full coverage foundation.

Lancome Miracle Cushion Foundation, $47

You don't get a lot of product especially for the steep price but this is a fabulous cushion foundation! It has a shade that is light enough for very fair skin (010) and it's very easy to use. I was able to stock up on a couple when Lancome had an unprecedented 50% off sale this Summer. I wish they would lower the price or include a second cushion but it's worth the splurge.

MAC Studio Fix Powder, $28

I've had this powder in my collection since I was about 16-years-old (repurchased several times over, that is). I always have it tossed in my makeup bag. It's perfect to use on its own on days when you don't have the time or energy to put on a liquid. It's also easy to use for touch-ups over other products. Many times I will use it simply for the mirror when reapplying a lippie. I'm in shade N3 which is practically the lightest powder on the market. I highly recommend it for all skin types.

Bobbi Brown Nude Finish Illuminating Powder in Nude, $50

I picked this powder up in a shade that is deeper than recommended for my complexion but instead use it as a light radiance boosting bronzer. It is very subtle and creates the most ethereal bronze. It's almost undetectable but makes such a difference. It's fine enough that someone very light can still use it as a finishing powder. I'd be curious to play around with the lighter shades but I love my Hourglass, YSL and Guerlain powders for this effect. At first I was disappointed in this product's performance but as I appreciated the beauty of its delicacy, it quickly became my favorite. The price is steep but I really enjoyed it.

YSL Boho Stones Gypsy Opale Limited Edition Couture Palette

Unfortunately, this stunning piece was very limited in its release but I'm so glad that I added it to my collection. Not only is the packaging gorgeous but the color correcting powder adds a beautiful radiance to the face. I like to use it as a finishing powder over tinted moisturizer. It should last for years but it will be a sad day when I run out of this beauty. Tip: Never travel with limited edition products that you love and can't replace! I don't even like to put this in my on-the-go makeup bag.

Guerlain Pressed Powder Meteorites Compact in 02 Clair, $62

While I love my traditional Meteorite pearls, the pressed version is much more convenient to use. While the price is steep, a little goes a long way and I expect to have this product in my collection for a long time. Like the YSL powder, the meteorites provide color correction and radiance in the most subtle way. I adore the gentle scent as well. This is a well-made, heavy product so if you plan to put it in your handbag for touch-ups, expect the extra weight.

Tarte Smooth Operator Amazonian Clay Pressed Setting Powder, $35

As someone with dry skin, I try to avoid setting my concealer or T-zone with translucent powder whenever possible. But during the warmer months or for special occasions, I reach for this one. A little goes a long way so this compact will last for eons. I hear so many wonderful things about the Laura Mercier loose powder but I prefer the convenience of something pressed as loose powder gets so messy. If you prefer loose setting powders, Tarte also has this product available in that formulation.



Concealer:

Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Concealer in Fair, $7

I love the applicator on this product. The sponge makes the product glide and blend effortlessly. The formula is hydrating and sheer enough for those who aren't looking for extreme coverage. Tip: Always prep the area with eye cream and/or a hydrating primer before applying concealer for optimal results. I love the Clarins Super Restorative and Bobbi Brown hydrating eye creams as well as the Smashbox under eye primer. Honorable Mention: Bobbi Brown Tinted Eye Brightener, $32 $23 in Porcelain Bisque.



Bronzer:

Urban Decay Beached Bronzer in Sun-Kissed, $28

This is a fantastic bronzer if you're looking for a touch of warmth without veering into oompa loompa territory. And that packaging is too cute to pass up. The palm trees evoke a feeling of being bronzed in a tropical paradise.

Bobbi Brown Bronzing Powder in Golden Light, $42

While I love Bobbi Brown, admittedly, her products are overpriced. This bronzer is wonderful, though. I love its golden tone for adding a bit of glow to my fair complexion.

Side Note: I didn't include any contour kits or powders in my list because I just don't take the time to contour very often. I prefer to just use a couple bronzers to add depth and dimension and find that regular bronzing provides a more natural look that's just as flattering.



Blush:

Clinique Cheek Pop Blush in Nude Pop, $23

I love this blush! The packaging is too cute for words and it just makes me happy. It's compact and easy to travel with as well. This shade goes so well with warm-neutral eye makeup that I almost always favor.

Too Faced Love Flush Blush in I Will Always Love You, $26

This blush is adorable. It reminds me of the Polly Pockets I would play with when I was little. I'm a fan of anything heart-shaped and Too Faced is definitely one of my favorite brands. This blush is more than just a cute gimmick, though. It lasts for hours and is very flattering on redheads.



Highlighter:

I've been a lover of highlighters for years-- long before they became the trend they are today. But something changed along the way. Highlighters went from adding an angelic radiance to being overwhelmingly glaring. I prefer my highlighter to look 'lit from within.' Subtle. I have several favorites in this category but these are a few that are most memorable for the year.

Hourglass Ambient Lighting Palette, $62

This palette is a no-brainer when it comes to adding a finishing glow to the skin. I'll often swirl my brush in all three shades. It really is foolproof. But the lighter shade can be concentrated to add an extra touch of highlight.

Lancome My Parisian Shimmer Cube (Limited Edition), $59

Not many people responded well to this little beauty. I thought it was a uniquely interesting addition to my collection. You can use it as eyeshadow, highlighter, blush or finishing powder. The packaging is precious. It's not the best formula in the universe but it made doing my makeup fun.

Dior Glowing Gardens Illuminating Highlighters (Limited Edition)

I picked this up in both the pink and golden shades. It's one of those "gelee" type formulas that sit well on the skin. I almost wish I only got the lighter shade but despite having extremely fair skin, I do love a warm highlighter. Blame it on my hair.



Lips:

Clarins Instant Light Lip Comfort Oil in Honey, $26

This is hands down one of my favorite beauty finds in the past several years. I've already gone through two bottles of this. I'm not one to purchase "backups" of anything but I definitely have an extra lip oil in my stash in case this ever gets discontinued. It hydrates the lips unlike anything else and has a pleasant taste/scent. I don't care for the other two shades in the range but the honey version is spectacular! I enjoy wearing it on its own when I want something on my lips without the hassle or as a treatment under a balm.

Clarins Moisture Replenishing Lip Balm, $24

This lip balm pairs perfectly with the lip oil and is also fantastic on its own. It has the slightest bit of sheer pink tint which is very flattering on the lips. I love the way this feels. I have repurchased this product several times and have one in my handbag, one in my collection and one in my nightstand.

Dior Addict Lip Glow Color Revival Balm, $33

On days when I just want a no fuss tint to my lips, I reach for this. It feels very comfortable and lovely on the lips. I like that it leaves a bit of tint/stain behind. I have this in a couple shades but the original is still my favorite.

Urban Decay Lip Liner in Rush, $20

I wasn't much of a lip liner person until this year. I prefer to match my lip liner to the color of my product as opposed to a nude shade that is closer to my lips. This liner is magical in that it is "my lips but better" but still has enough of a pink hue that makes it the perfect partner with pinks and nude lipsticks. It has the slightest bit of sparkle that creates an interesting dimension to your product without being at all glittery.

Gucci Luxurious Moisture-Rich Lipstick in Exposure, $39

This is probably the prettiest lipstick I have ever owned. I've been a Gucci girl since I was a kid admiring my Mom's handbag (which I later scored for myself). Gucci has become very trendy over the past few years which the hipster in me is disappointed by. I liked having it "for myself." But I digress. Not only is the packaging of this lipstick phenomenal with its patterned logo and magnetic closure, but the formula is ultra comfortable and hydrating. I love this shade as it's neutral enough to pair well with most looks but still has a good color to it. I'd love to add some more Gucci lipsticks to my collection but not this year!

Tom Ford Lip Color in Pink Dusk, $53

My one and only Tom Ford lipstick. At that price, there's a good reason for having a limited supply. But this particular shade makes it understandable how the brand charges an arm and a leg for their product. This is a special lipstick for sure. Its packaging is dynamite and the formula is phenomenal. I love that this shade, like my Gucci lipstick, is neutral enough to pair with any eye look. It's my go-to for everything from everyday wear to an evening out. But at $53 a tube, I try to make sure I don't wear it too frequently.

Charlotte Tilbury K.I.S.S.I.N.G Lipstick in Hepburn Honey, $32

This is a gorgeous shade of warm peachy nude. It takes well to a variety of different lip liners and glosses which can make it pull darker or lighter with ease. The packaging is stunning and the formula is fantastic. It's my only Charlotte Tilbury lipstick but it won't be my last.

Physicians Formula pH Matchmaker pH Powered Lip Gloss in Light Pink, $9

This has been a perennial favorite. I've had this in my collection for a long time but it never disappoints. I reach for it over a drawer filled with every high end brand imaginable. What's not to love about this product? It's very affordable, can be purchased at the drug store, has a mirror, adjusts to match my body's chemistry, goes well with a ton of different lip products, works perfectly on its own, leaves a tint andddd it lights up! What more could you ask for?


Set:

Urban Decay All Nighter Setting Spray, $31

This product does exactly what it promises. It locks your makeup into place and prolongs its wear time. This bottle lasts quite a long time so I was happy to stock up when they went on sale last year. It seems as though there is new packaging for the new year so I hope that the formula hasn't changed.

Haul: Sephora VIB Sale

If you're a fan of makeup and skincare, you know that high-end products very rarely get marked down. This is why twice a year, beauty lovers are treated to Sephora's VIB sale. Insiders are well aware that the fall sale is always the best because the discount is greater (20% as opposed to 15% in the spring). In addition to this, holiday sets are priced reasonably well so it's an excellent time to score bundles at the best value.

Because I occasionally freelance for another retailer and am able to get 40% off on most of my must-have beauty products, my temptation at the Sephora sale is usually limited to their more exclusive brands. This time around, I only picked up a couple things I've had my eye on all year as well as basics that are always smart to stock up on when it's on sale. While the sale is limited to VIB customers and is now over, these are some products that I highly recommend for Christmas gifts or to keep in mind for future events.


What I Purchased:

• Anastasia of Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance Eyeshadow Palette: Technically, I didn't get this via the Sephora sale. I wanted to but it was out of stock. To my benefit, I was able to score this palette for even less at another retailer thanks to reward money and my insider discount! When this product originally launched earlier this year, I told myself that I didn't need another warm-toned palette but the hype got to me. I love Anastasia's eyeshadow formula and these colors really are my type. I recently cleared out my collection so I was happy to fit this in nicely. I'm curious to see how a few of the shades compare to others I own but as a whole, this will be very convenient to have in one palette. I'm not crazy about the packaging but my first impression in terms of quality in its formula and color range is very good.
• Hourglass Ambient Lighting Edit - Surreal Light: I've had my eye on this beauty since it first launched. It was the number one thing I wanted from the Sephora sale. Hourglass makes some of the most ethereal powders I have ever used. It gives your face an airbrushed, candlelit glow that is worth every penny. I highly recommend this for lighter complexions. I usually prefer my highlight to be subtle and this does the trick in the most wondrous of ways. The natural blush lasts for hours and the bronzer is actually suitable for fair skin. And of course, the faux marble packaging is what sold me. Stunning!
• Perfect Formula Gel Coat Manicure Set: I discovered the Pink Gel Coat polish through a VIB points perk and it is now my favorite nail strengthener and base coat -- but it is so pricey. I always make sure to only purchase it when it is on sale. When I saw this set, I decided it would be a nice way to try out some of the brand's other products.
• Urban Decay All-Nighter Setting Spray Duo: This setting spray is a staple in my collection. It lasts quite a while but when you see the value set on sale, you stock up! I'll be good with setting spray for a long, long time. 
• Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion (x3): This is another must-have that lasts forever but when it's marked down and on sale on top of that, you buy as many as logically possible. The reason the price was slashed is because the packaging changed but I much prefer this version. I won't need to buy another primer for years.
• Sephora Oil Infusion Color & Care (07 Raspberry Smoothie): This was another item I found in the sale section. I love lip oils but they're usually pricey (Clarins is my favorite and YSL makes a beautiful one as well). I have another one from the Sephora brand and thought it was a decent product for the money. This doesn't last long on the lips but it's nice to throw on for hydration and shine.
• Human + Kind Body Oil: I absolutely love body oils so when I found this in the sale section, I scooped it up. I was unfamiliar with this Irish brand but I'm excited to compare it to similar products I have in my collection. I'm always looking for a more affordable alternative to my Clarins Tonic Body Treatment Oil. Maybe this will fit the bill.
• Sephora Cushion Bronzer (Light/Medium): I adore cushion products-- sunscreen, primer, corrector, foundation, blush, highlighter... I've got them all. But I've never tried a cushion bronzer. This product is smaller than I thought it would be and I'm not sure the color will be right for my skin tone but I found this in the sale section and it was a cheap thrill. 
• Benefit Bigger & Bolder Brow Kit (03 Medium): I don't need any more brow products but this value set was enticing. I originally wanted a different kit but it sold out in my shade. I've been wanting to try out some of Benefit's new brow range so this was a good way to do so at the best price.
• Natasha Denona Eyeshadow Palette 5 (Color 04): After the Hourglass kit, this was the next item I wanted the most from the sale. I've wanted to try Natasha Denona eyeshadows for the past couple years. I could never justify the cost of her large palettes but this smaller set at the discounted price was worth the splurge. Based on these shades alone, I'd say that her shadows are definitely over-hyped and not worth the astronomical price that she charges for the large kits but they are beautiful and of good quality. Just not outstanding. I'm very happy to have this set and see how the shadows perform on the lids but I doubt that I repurchase anything else from her line. 

While it's fun to treat yourself every once in awhile, I don't condone hoarding cosmetics. I've always loved being a girlie girl and collecting makeup but as I've gotten older, I prefer the way I look with less and less. It's fun to try new products and experiment artistically with different looks but I'm hoping that 2017 will be the year that my collection gets smaller and better edited. I've done a pretty good job at narrowing it down but it's still insane for one lady to have. One of my new year's resolutions is definitely to simplify and keep things in check.

Recent Beauty Favorites, Winter/Spring 2016

 It has been quite a while since I shared some of my favorite beauty products. After working in cosmetic sales and artistry for the past few years, I have skillfully navigated the land of luxury makeup and skincare. Through trial and error, I have discovered what's worth the splurge and what can be better substituted at your local drugstore. Here are a few of the products that I have been recently loving:

• Lancome My Parisian Pastels Shimmer Cube: An adorably packaged product with a unique design. Can be used as highlighter, blush, eyeshadow or finishing powder.
• OPI Hello Kitty and New Orleans Collections: My favorite brand of polish delivers once again with a wide range of beautiful colors including Kitty White (a shimmering white with a silvery finish), Charmmy & Sugar (a standout shade of metallic pale pink with sparkles), She's A Bad Muffuletta! (a strawberry red with pink undertones), Rich Girls & Po-Boys (a beautiful, boyish shade of blue that's somehow still very feminine).
• Clarins Lip Oil (01 Honey), Moisture Replenishing Lip Balm, & Instant Light Natural Lip Perfector (07 Toffee Pink Shimmer): I've been fixated with keeping my lips hydrated with oil, balm and a moisturizing product. The newest shade from the Instant Light collection is my favorite out of all of them- the most beautifully natural shade of pink.
• YSL Gypsy Opale Face Palette: The dynamite packaging is what sold me but the product itself keeps me reaching for more. A wonderful color correcting finishing powder. 
• Shiseido Future Solution Night Cream: A steep price tag but worth every penny. The Future Solution range of skincare products has been my guilty pleasure for several years. It truly keeps fine lines in-check and hydrates beyond belief.
• Bioderma Cleansing Water: Many brands are attempting to knock off this cult-favorite product (Simple, Garnier, etc...) that was once only available for purchase in Europe but thanks to sites like Beautylish, Bioderma is accessible to the masses and at a fantastic price. Nothing beats the original! Perfect for dry, sensitive skin. Takes makeup off and leaves the skin clean. 
• ColourPop Eyeshadows: This brand has been one of my favorite discoveries. I adore everything about their range- affordable, cutting edge, on-trend, fun and good quality. I love all of their products but every girl needs to own at least one of their eyeshadows.
• Tarte Amazonian Clay BB Tinted Moisturizer (Ivory): I don't like to wear heavy foundation and prefer light coverage on my face. This BB/tinted moisturizer hybrid is phenomenal at delivering just enough hydration and coverage to even out my complexion without masking my natural skin beneath. 
• Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Concealer (Fair): I have tried plenty of high-end concealers but this drugstore find is still my favorite. I recently turned 30 but am just now starting to need coverage under the eyes. This concealer has been a go-to. 
• Etude House Sheet Masks: A few times a year (when the Korean beauty site offers sales and free shipping), I place an order for my favorite Asian cosmetic items. These sheet masks are affordable and a wonderful addition to your skincare routine. 
• Estee Lauder Double Wear Eyeliner (Gold): My eyeliner collection is obscene. There are a lot of terrific pencil liners on the market but this formula and color from Estee Lauder has been my favorite.
• Smashbox Photo Finish Primer Water: I thought this was a gimmick when I first purchased it. "Diamond water? Riiight." It turns out that this primer is everything. If you have dry skin that rejects foundation, this formula will agree with anything you place on top of it. It helps with the application of your makeup but more importantly, it truly prolongs its wear-time. If they ever discontinue this baby, I will be buying a lifetime supply.
• Bobbi Brown Hydrating Eye Cream: This is terrific for day or night and a must-have before prepping for concealer. 
• Lancome Miracle Cushion Compact Foundation (Alternate: L'Oreal True Match Lumi Cushion Foundation): My love for Asian-inspired skincare and beauty products has found its way into my foundation routine. When I need a bit more coverage than a BB cream or tinted moisturizer, I reach for these. They're still light-medium coverage and very comfortable on the skin. The downside? You don't get a lot of product for what you pay but the finish is gorgeous. 
• Too Faced Chocolate Bon Bons Eyeshadow Palette: Too Faced is one of my favorite brands- so feminine, fun and flirty. I have so many of their products and love of all of them. If Peggy Bundy ever designed an eyeshadow palette, it might look like this. 
• Clinique Cheek Pop Blush (Nude Pop): I'm not much of a Clinique girl but this blush's cutesy floral and acrylic packaging lured me in. The formula and shade is also incredible. 
• Chanel Nail Polish (683 Sunrise Trip): From the Spring 2016 LA Sunrise Collection, this shade looks nearly black in the bottle but on the nail, it's an original shade of royal purple with navy undertones. I'm still on the hunt for the perfect, bright, neutral-yet-wearable, neon purple (that's not asking too much is it?) but this shade will be fine until that polish is discovered invented.

The Cosmo Awards: Best of Beauty 2014!

I really wanted to get this post up before the start of the new year but better late than never! As I work in cosmetic sales and represent various high-end brands, I'm fortunate enough to try just about every product you can think of. Fall Must-Haves!

1. Oversized Plaid Blanket Scarves. As classic as a piece like this may be, it's really having a trendy moment. Perfect way to stay warm while still looking chic. I've always had an affinity for plaid. It reminds me of my grade school uniforms. It also has a Celtic feel to it; which of course, as an Irish girl, I can appreciate.

2. Green & Grey Nail Polish. Feeling these two hues for the season. A couple options: OPI Gwen Stefani Holiday, Christmas Gone Plaid. Chanel Frenzy.

3. Booties. My favorite style of shoe is definitely a must-have for Fall! I'm not into wearing true heels very often. Booties are the best of both worlds. A little extra height without any discomfort? Yes, please. Loving my new blue suede shoes. Matt Bernson Coup D'etat Leather Ankle Boots.

4. Brixton Messer Style Hats. Blacks, Browns, Mulberrys... I'll take two in every color and style. I'm truly a hat type of lady. Love that these are having a major style comeback.

5. Capes. For the past few years, I've been living in these throws during the colder months. When Burberry introduced their now iconic color block monogram blanket poncho, seemingly worn by every fashionista in the world, this type of piece really gained street style cred. This would be an incredible personalized DIY look.

6. Bobbi Brown Holiday Shimmer Brick, Copper Diamond. The tortoise shell packaging alone was enough to sell me on this beauty. I love the shimmer bricks as a highlighter but they can also be used as eyeshadow. Get this limited edition shade while it's still available. They last forever. Incredibly gorgeous especially for the holidays or to add a touch of warmth when the sun is no longer shining.

7. A new lipstick- Browns, Berrys, & Burgundys, oh my! I've really been into these types of shades for the season. My new favorite lines to fall in love with are Charlotte Tilbury and Gucci; however, shades like this can be found in just about any line. Other brands to consider: Revlon, MAC.

8. Candles. As soon as the temps drop, I go candle crazy. I don't like to spend a lot on something so disposable but it's nice to indulge in a little bit of luxury every now and again. Any brand. Any scent (or lack thereof) will do! Candles add such magic to any atmosphere. Love.
