Countdown to Gatsby

The soundtrack of this film appears to be crafted from my own music collection. I love it all! I wish more directors paid closer attention to detail when it comes to their movie's soundtrack. Music truly is a character in and of itself. The right song or musical score has has the power to transform a scene and set the tone for the entire film.

Countdown to Gatsby

Gatsby

I've always been captivated by the Jazz Age. The lifestyles, fashion, decor, literature, automobiles, music... it must have been a very interesting time to be young and alive. The roaring twenties of this century are quickly approaching. Hopefully, our generation will have something as inspiring and grandeur to remember it by.

Countdown to Gatsby

With great anticipation for its theatrical release, I thought I'd share some Gatsby-esque blog posts. Enjoy this behind the scenes peek at the jewelry and costume designs associated with the film:

Get Lit: A Few Magazines

May Details, April & May American Vogue

I've always loved reading magazines. I could spend hours getting lost in their content. One of the reasons I didn't want a tablet device was because I prefer to have the print editions of my books and magazines. There's something special about flipping through the pages, smelling the perfume ads, taking notes in the margins and having it to keep on your bookshelf.

When I was little, I would cut up my subscriptions and make my own magazine creations. I'd write articles and pretend I was a fashion/beauty editor. I remember putting scotch tape over the pages I did myself to try and mimic the glossy effect. We didn't have a laminating machine at the Roman residence.

Having this blog and using sites like Polyvore allow me to feel like that little girl in her bedroom, dreaming of bigger things. Real magazines are my touch of nostalgia and I hope they never cease to exist in the publishing world.

Quoteworthy

This beautiful quote was displayed in the window of an adorable store in Franklin, Tennessee. I took the picture while I was visiting my friend, Maggie, who now lives in the Volunteer State.

I'm getting really excited to reread The Great Gatsby and watch the new film adaptation. F. Scott Fitzgerald and Leonardo DiCaprio have always been two of my absolute favorites!

Chic & Thrifty

I got out of work early today, so I was able to get a few of my Saturday errands out of the way! I made a quick stop at one of my favorite thrift stores but it didn't have any decor, clothing or jewelry that caught my eye. To cheer me up, I made my way to the music section and grabbed a few records. Orange tags were 50% off, so I snagged these for a couple bucks each. Not too shabby. I met a really nice father and son when I picked up The Supremes' Greatest Hits. They were fans. Who isn't?! :)

I buy so much online that I sometimes forget how nice it is to browse at an actual store. I need to venture to a few different shops this summer. Because Pittsburgh has such a massive amount of older residents who eventually pass away, there are some amazing things that end up at thrift shops. I'm always ready, willing and able to search for the good stuff and provide it with a new, loving home.
