Fill In the Blank Friday
For this week's edition of Fill In the Blank Friday, I pulled some questions from the infamous Proust Questionnaire.
What do you regard as the lowest depth of misery?
Loneliness; not necessarily being by yourself which I actually quite like but the kind in which you could be surrounded by others but still feel empty.
Where would you like to live?
I love where I was born and raised (Pittsburgh) but in an ideal world, I would own homes all over the world and travel quite often. Pittsburgh is beautiful, though. I love its rolling hills, four seasons, culture, people, architecture, livability... it's home sweet home for sure.
What is your idea of earthly happiness?
Love, freedom, creative expression, generosity, friendship, knowledge, something to look forward to, experience...
Who are your favorite heroes of fiction?
I tend to gravitate toward nonfiction books and my own imagination but Ja'mie King from Chris Lilley's Summer Heights High has given me enough laughs to last a lifetime. I wish I had a more philosophical response but I'd rather keep it real. I also really enjoyed Daria growing up. I always felt I was a mixture between Daria and her sister Quinn.
Ja'mie King
Quinn Morgendorffer
Your favorite painter?
I love just about all of John William Waterhouse's work but one of my favorite paintings is Midsummer Eve by Edward Robert Hughes.
Echo and Narcissus. Waterhouse, 1903.
Midsummer Eve. Edward Robert Hughes, 1908.
Your favorite musician?
I have quite a few but one would be Paolo Nutini. He sings with such an incredible amount of emotion and depth. The boy's got soul.
"No Other Way" by Paolo Nutini
*This is one of the most beautiful songs/performances I've ever heard.
The quality you most admire in a man?
Generally speaking, a gentleman.
The quality you most admire in a woman?
Warmth.
Your favorite virtue?
Of the four traditional Cardinal virtues, prudence.
Your favorite occupation?
Writer/Author.

A "Summer Heights" Summer
In this scene, Jonah Takalua, the troubled middle school student, raps during class about being Tongan. Keep in mind, this is the same actor who plays Mr. G. and Ja'mie King. This is so inappropriately brilliant!

A "Summer Heights" Summer
This is probably my favorite scene from the entire series. It doesn't really need to be explained. I've watched this so many times but I still laugh. I can pretty much recite the entire dialogue. Best line:
"If you fucking love me, you'll do as I fucking say!"

Mr. G & one of the "specials", Toby, have a unique bond. Let's listen in on a nice little conversation between the two besties:

A "Summer Heights" Summer
Allow me to set the scene for you...
Ja'mie (played by Chris Lilley) is at Summer Heights High for a special exchange program. She's used to being the "it girl" at her private school and wants to continue the trend at SHH. Problem: the most popular girl at Summer Heights is Tamsin; a lesbian. In an outrageous attempt to be seen as cool, Ja'mie finds herself "coming out of the closet" and asking Tamsin to the school formal.

Mr. G.'s psychological assessments for casting the school musical. I love his checklist; "attractiveness, intelligence, mental state...". Some teachers really do take these things seriously. I'm sure we've all had a Mr. G. at one point or another. "Dad ever hit Mum?" "Who's gonna wanna pay to see you on stage... who?!" Priceless.

A "Summer Heights" Summer
As promised, each week I will be posting one of my favorite Summer Heights High clips. This week's is Mr. G's surprise evacuation drills. It's so inappropriately hilarious. If there were ever an actual incident, those kids wouldn't believe it. "There's a terrorist attacking the school!" "There's a kid with a gun." "There's a pedophile in the school." I laugh so hard every time I watch this! :)

A "Summer Heights" Summer
If you know me at all, you know that Summer Heights High is one of my favorite television shows ever. Unfortunately, it was somewhat of a special project that only lasted one season. To satisfy my need for laughter, each week I'll be posting one of my favorite clips from Summer Heights High. If you're not familiar with the show, you're missing out. It's basically an Australian mockumentary style show (think The Office) about high school. The creator of the show, Chris Lilley, plays the three main characters (none of whom interact with one another). It's genius and you can read more here.
But enough about the details... on to the laughs:
This clip is an OUTTAKE from my favorite character, Ja'mie King. Keep in mind, she's being played by Lilley. Her character is the stereotypical rich, spoiled, conceited girl. I could dedicate an entire post to Ja'mie's one-liners. Love it!
Now Playing: "Big Jet Plane" by Angus & Julia Stone (Lady of the Sunshine)
How beautiful are they?
