Word of the Week for June 6-12th, 2011:
CYMOTRICHOUS adj.
Definition: Having wavy hair
Pronunciation: sahy-mo-truh-kuhs
First known usage: 1905-1910
Origin: Greek
Example:
The pop star's long, cymotrichous locks were beautiful.
I chose CYMOTRICHOUS because it was the winning word at this year's national spelling bee. The "bee" was won by 14-year-old Pennslyvania girl (yay), Sukanya Roy! I always watched the bee when I was little. Spelling is one of my stronger suits. My hair is naturally wavy, so I will be sure to use this word more often!
