Yes, you read the blog title correctly.
"Drink up, yinz bitches!" is a popular saying in my hometown of Pittsburgh. If you're still scratching your head, "yinz" is what true Pittsburghers naturally say instead of "you guys" or "y'all". It's one of the many quirky things that is unique to my city. I'm a proud yinzer!
Since today is International IPA Day and tomorrow is International Beer Day, I wanted to dedicate a blog post to some of my favorite drinks. While I love beer, I'm not exactly an afficionado. This isn't some sort of sophisticated list of the top beers in the world. It's just 5 of my go-to brews :)
In no particular order, here are a few of my closest friends...
Negra Modelo
5.40% ABV
Style: Munich Drunkel Lager
Country: Mexico
By: Groupo Modelo
I order this when I go to Smokin' Joes on the South Side of Pittsburgh.
It tastes good during any time of the year.
I really like the design of the bottle.
Smooooth.
Penn Oktoberfest
5.60% ABV
Style: Märzen/Oktoberfest
Country: United States (Pennsylvania)
By: Pennsylvania Brewing Company
October is my favorite month and this is the brew that I drink the most during the fall.
Penn Brewery is actually in my neighborhood.
I love this stuff!
Chimay Grande Reserve (Blue)
9.00% ABV
Style: Belgian Strong Dark Ale
Country: Belgium
By: Bières de Chimay (Abbaye Notre Dame de Scourmont)
This is my favorite beer of all time!
The monks know what they're doing.
The Rolls-Royce of beers.
If you're drinking this in public, you will be questioned and/or complimented.
Smithwick's
4.50% ABV
Style: Irish Red Ale
Country: Ireland
By: Guinness Ltd.
Pronounced SMIT-ICKS.
This is a good one to have around at any time.
I really like the taste.
Nice to drink at the pub/bar with friends.
90 Minute IPA
9.00% ABV
Style: American Double/Imperial IPA
Country: United States (Delaware)
By: Dogfish Head Craft Brewery
I fell in love with this beer a few years ago.
I've turned a lot of friends and strangers on to this magical little beauty.
It has the potential to fuck you up without you even realizing it.
The label is pink!
