The Times New Travel: Socotra, Yemen

Up until last night, I had never heard of Socotra Island. Described as one of the most isolated and unique places on Earth, it's located about 150 miles (240 kilometers) off the Horn of Africa in the Indian Ocean. Socotra is a small archipelago that contains four islands. With about 50,000 inhabitants, it is considered one of the premier travel destinations for those who have already seen what the rest of the world has to offer.

As you can see from the photographs and video above, Socotra is otherworldly. If I were to film a movie that needed to look like it was taking place on another planet, I'd go there. Socotra is known for its beautiful flora, including the Dragon's Blood Tree, which is unique to the island. Socotra is part of the Republic of Yemen.

Road Trip!

Heading down to Florida tomorrow to help my sister move. 18 hours. 1100 miles. She's staying in Venice Beach, FL until May for a travel nursing position. I haven't drove to Florida since I was in grade school and that was on a charter bus with a bunch of my friends and family. But I like road trips so it shouldn't be too bad. We are likely going to stop in Savannah, GA which I'm excited about since I hear it's beautiful. We're also gonna spend some time in Tampa. I'm flying home on Sunday... the first time by myself. Should be an interesting little adventure.

Luxe Living: Thailand

Last night I went to the movies to see The Hangover Part II. The film is set in Thailand and included some breathtaking shots of Bangkok (Lebua Hotel State Tower) and Phulay Bay Ritz-Carlton resort in Krabi. While some of the locations of the movie made me never want to visit this part of the world, others were stunning. Here are some highlights from the more inviting scenery:
