Halloween Decor Shopping - Come Along!

Shopping for fall and Halloween decor is one of the things I look forward to most about this time of year! I spent a couple days traipsing around a few of my favorite haunts looking for new treasures to add to my collection. I had never been inside a Kirkland's store before but was impressed with quite a few of their seasonal selections including a stunning black and white 'Boo' pillar set. The shopping in Pittsburgh seems to be improving every year and it's getting overwhelming with all of the wonderful choices. I still appreciate my thrifted finds and upcycled crafts more than anything you could discover being mass-produced on the market today, but I can never resist a gorgeous velvet pumpkin, charming throw pillow or adorable country primitive black cat. OCTOBER 2011 WRITER'S DIGEST!

It's funny how things have a way of appearing when you need it the most. After a not so great day (it's only noon), I received a new copy of Writer's Digest in my mailbox. I was hoping that this would be the issue that my winning entry for one of its writing contests would appear. I wrote the opening sentence on a whim while paging through the magazine. I submitted it with a laugh and didn't think of it again. I discovered that I was selected as one of the winners by accident. Thanks for the email notification, Writer's Digest!

I randomly and vainly did a Google images search of my name and was met with a Writer's Digest link in the search results. Out of 1,400 submissions, my little sentence came in 7th... pretty respectable for an amateur like myself! Someday, I'll get more than a brief mention in this publication, but for now, this is exactly what I needed to brighten my day! :)

I love when people who have the same name as me add me on facebook! When your name isn't extremely common, it's weird to see another person wtih a form of your identity. I appreciate unique names. I still think that I'm the only Krista Selene Roman in the world. If and when I have kids (hopefully someday), I will make sure that their names are extremely uncommon. I plan ahead. I've had a list since I was old enough to write. My first son will be named Roman since my last name sadly won't be carried on by anyone else in the family. Middle names and girl's names are still up for debate. I just hope and pray that the man I marry has a solid last name. I've grown to really like my name. It would be a travesty to take on something... er, not nice.
