The Times New Travel: Cumberland Island, Georgia

I first heard about Cumberland Island when JFK Jr. married there in the nineties (even as a young girl I loved John John). I later read about this beautiful place in more detail from Christina Haag's touching memoir, Come to the Edge (highly recommend this book).

Isolated, pristine, untouched. I've flown over this part of the country quite a few times and have been semi-nearby but have yet to actually experience it in all of its natural beauty. Wild horses, exotic beaches and sand dunes, historic ruins, quaint accommodations. You don't hear enough about Cumberland Island. Remote yet accessible. It definitely seems like an ideal spot for a romantic getaway or therapeutic retreat. It's definitely on my list of must-see places here in the U.S.

Flick Pick: Celeste & Jesse Forever

I've been wanting to see this movie for some time and finally had the chance. I definitely recommend it if you're into offbeat romantic comedies. It would be the perfect rental for Valentine's Day. The entire cast is excellent.

I have to say that the music selections were fantastic. Celeste & Jesse Forever automatically scored points with me for including this magical number...

"Baby" by Donnie & Joe Emerson

That song gets me every time. I seriously am in love with it.

Celeste & Jesse are now among my favorite on-screen couples; along with another Jesse... and Celine. FYI: I can't wait to see Before Midnight this year! If you love romance/appreciate good dialogue but haven't seen Before Sunrise or Before Sunset, leave this blog right now to watch both!

Shoe Style

I love taking little style surveys. I saw a commercial for shoedazzle.com (not a member) but wanted to fill out its questionnaire. It turns out, my shoe style is the romantic, poetic, eclectic. Sounds about right. In all honesty, I'm not a shoe person. They usually bore me. I much prefer handbags. But this was fun.

The Poet Laureate of the North Side...

Perhaps it's the alignment of the stars or maybe I'm just feeling lonely. Lately, I have been in quite a romantic mood. I find myself listening to love songs, reading poetry, choosing wine over my usual beer and burning candles. It's a little pathetic but I'm just being honest. It's all about love, right? There should be no shame in admitting these things. Here is a poem that I've cherished since I was a little girl. It's entitled "To Anthea" and it's by 17th century poet, Robert Herrick. It's pretty scandalous reading material for an 8-year-old but I was always ahead of my time ;)

Make Love Not War

This picture was taken last night in Vancouver. Apparently there was some rioting going on after the Canucks lost the Stanley Cup Finals to the Boston Bruins. But that didn't stop these two lovers from showing their PDA. Oh, Canada. Crazy/beautiful.
