Nail Polish of the Moment: OPI Rainbow Connection
When I purchased this polish a couple months back, I knew that it would be perfect for New Year's Eve! It literally looks like an explosion of confetti on my nails. I first put down a couple coats of metallic silver polish (LA Colors Color Craze in Live) and waited for it to dry. I then put 2-3 coats of Rainbow Connection on top and sealed it with Seche Vite. From a distance, it reminds me a bit of a stained glass window. I absolutely love it! I think this look would also be fun for birthday parties, Vegas, a trip to the circus (random) or anywhere that's a bit on the wild side. If you like to have fun with your nails and want to try something a step beyond a standard glitter, I highly recommend trying this out! Those who are into manicures know the difference between the kind of glitter that's used in polish and the kind that's found inside a craft store. OPI's Rainbow Connection is the exception. It truly looks like confetti glitter in nail polish form. I love it!

New Year's Eve Classic...
When Harry Met Sally, 1989.
"I love that you get cold when it's 71 degrees out. I love that it takes you an hour and a half to order a sandwich. I love that you get a little crinkle above your nose when you're looking at me like I'm nuts. I love that after I spend the day with you, I can still smell your perfume on my clothes. And I love that you are the last person I want to talk to before I go to sleep at night. And it's not because I'm lonely, and it's not because it's New Year's Eve. I came here tonight because when you realize you want to spend the rest of your life with somebody, you want the rest of your life to start as soon as possible."

Flashback Friday
In observance of New Year's Eve, I must choose "Champagne Supernova" by Oasis as my flashback Friday song. If you know me at all, you know that in my world, champagne is not only reserved for December 31st.
"My only regret in life is that I didn't drink enough champagne." -John Maynard Keynes
But long before I developed a penchant for the bubbly, I was listening to this song. I've always loved it. Hearing it now, reminds me of the days when I would actually call the radio station to make a request, then wait for it to be played. If I was lucky, the DJ would put our conversation on the air. What's the Story Morning Glory was one of the first CDs I remember asking my parents to get me for Christmas. I wish I still had it but sadly, someone stole my entire collection a few years ago.

The Stroke of Midnight
I saw this "flyer" on tumblr and couldn't help but laugh. I've only spent one New Year's Eve inside a douchey night club (back in '06/'07). I swore then that it would be my last foray into the club scene. I have succeeded in my promise. New Year's Eve is an exciting time but I find that it's extremely overrated and can produce a tremendous amount of disappointment. One of my friends got married last year on 12/31, so it was an amazing night, but some of the best New Year's Eve parties I've been to were right at home with my family or close friends. I don't see what fun there is to be had in waiting an hour at a crowded bar to get an overpriced, watered down drink. I'd rather watch the ball drop from the comfort of my own home. I'm still waiting for my first new year's kiss, though. I ran away from the guy I was with last year because it wouldn't have been special enough. True story. I've waited this long, might as well hold out for the fireworks...

Nail Polish of the Moment: Milani Blue Flash
2-3 Coats of Milani Blue Flash
Last month, I posted about Milani's One Coat Glitter Polish that I found at K-Mart. I ended up ordering two more colors because I was so impressed with the quality and price point. Blue Flash is an electric blue that's perfect for the icy winter months (the color of my astrological sign, Aquarius). It reminds me of a glittery ornament. It somewhat lives up to its promise in that you can get away with one coat if you had to but I much prefer 2-3 coats to get a vamped up effect. I like the texture, so I didn't apply a top coat but I imagine it would be extremely sparkly and quite gorgeous with Seche Vite on top. This is the perfect color to add some brightness to the greyer months. It's a bit loud but it's fun.

Nail Polish of the Moment: OPI Crown Me Already! with A Little Help From a Cheapie!

OPI "Crown Me Already!" over LA Colors Color Craze "Live". Natural Light with Flash. |
I love this pairing for winter! I have a holiday party tomorrow at an ice skating rink. I thought these two polishes would be perfect! I used LA Colors Color Craze in Live (a metallic silver foil, $1 and amazing... definitely one of my favorite polishes in my collection) as a base and put OPI's Crown Me Already! (silver glitter and sparkles) on top. To help seal the glitter and protect the polish, I also used a clear top coat (Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure in Clear'd For Takeoff).
The two polishes are the exact same color. I can't tell where one ends and the other begins! Both "Live" and "Crown Me Already" make a beautiful look on their own but I wanted to kick it up a notch. Even in dim lighting, these colors make a statement. I think it would be wonderful for young girls, teens, twenty-somethings or those that are young at heart. It reminds me of a mirrored disco ball or an ornament. It would be fabulous for New Year's Eve, birthdays or any time of the year when you just want to feel a bit fun! I've used Live as a pedicure color for a formal event and it looked pretty cool as well. Love these!
