Missed Connections: Adult Entertainment Edition

Because flip flops are always the wisest footwear selection when it's 11 degrees out. And that's about all that stood out to me as suspect.

Missed Connections: Why Wasn't I Invited?! Edition

A '70s Porn Party. It apparently went down in Mount Washington. What are you going to tell me next? Champagne was on tap and every guy there had facial hair? My e-vite must have been lost in one of Gmail's unnecessary new folders. I have to make a wider circle of friends. Ones who throw together parties like this. I've been looking for an excuse to dress up (or down?) as Amber Waves from Boogie Nights for years.

Flick Pick: Safety Not Guaranteed

Apparently Safety Not Guaranteed came out last year but I don't remember ever seeing any trailers or hearing a thing about it. I'm really glad that I stumbled upon it on Netflix. Simply put, this was one of the most outstanding films I've seen in quite some time. It was completely original and the type of screenplay that I'd want to write. In fact, the movie itself reminded me of a Missed Connections ad that I posted here on my blog a couple years back (check it out here).

Charming, funny and surprisingly profound, I would definitely recommend seeing Safety Not Guaranteed. The cast was superb. This is a movie for people with an open mind and a longing for the past. If you've ever had your heart broken or known pain of any kind- the type of wound that time didn't seem to heal, this movie will capture that feeling. You'll finish with a sense that you're not in this thing alone.

Missed Connections: Sending Signals Edition

does anyone out there also appreciate the beauty of the turn signal?
such a quiet call for gentle attention. with a heartbeat rhythm. personally, my favorite view is from the rear (the luminous red ones, so like lips), though from inside, those green arrows illuminating the dash, with their aching hollow plunk, punctuating that patient longing cowboy tune, 200 miles into a 300-mile post-meridian delivery- now that's an compelling second.
& and in summer, a hand turn signal, for a right turn? I'd stop the world & melt for you.

          just saying.

When people neglect to use their turning signal, it bothers me. A pet peeve since I first learned to drive and probably well before then, it's always irritated me. So when I came across this missed connections post, I was thrown off. I never considered the possibility that someone could be turned on by turning signals. Probably because most people aren't. This is actually really creepy and kind of funny. It's been awhile since I came across a post that was worthy of a share but I think this one is a keeper. If you ever drive in Pittsburgh, remember the signal you're sending might be taken in a different direction. I know I'll never look at that little blinking light the same way again.

Missed Connections: "Hey! I Know That Girl!" Edition

As I've mentioned before, I read the Craigslist Missed Connections on the regular. Unfortunately, I never recognize the people being described in the posts... until today! Because my sister is an ER nurse and my Dad is a 911 Commander, I know quite a few paramedics, firefighters, police officers, etc. I opened this Missed Connection because I had a strong feeling I may know the person being secretly admired.

It turns out, the post was for my friend Melissa who may be coming to Ireland/England with me next fall! I immediately sent her a message and she said the post was definitely for her. I told her to send the mystery man an email back. If the two of them hit it off and get married, I expect some sort of prize or at least an endorsement deal with Craigslist.

Missed Connections work! ;)

Missed Connections: Breaking Amish Edition

Per usual, I've regularly been perusing the best reading material online; the Craigslist Missed Connections. Lately, there just haven't been any posts worthy of sharing... until I came across this one. The dry spell has been broken:

Missed Connections: Comedy Edition

Dear East Ender,

Where is it written that a meal equates to sex? I'm sure this is the type of disregard you were referring to. Posts like this are precisely why I avoid dating in the first place. Money gets laid out and you don't. Feelings get hurt. It can be quite a mess. Idea- Treat them hoes with respect and maybe they won't be such bitches?

Sincerely,

The Hundred Acre Wood

Missed Connections: Horror Edition

Earlier this week, I mentioned that I troll the missed connections section of craigslist for kicks and giggles. I stated that the boards contain every genre of literature imaginable. I wasn't lying. Over the years, I've had my fair share of "swimfans" but the post below takes it to an entire new level. Check out this frightening piece of work (you may have to click the image to enlarge):

Missed Connections

I often tell my friends that the "Missed Connections" on craigslist.org contains some of the best literature of our time. As a narrative nonfiction writer, I'm always inspired by its musings. On any given day, the posts might include whichever genre you're hoping for. I frequently read the boards because you come across everything from hopeless romantics (like myself) to people who may or may not have escaped from a lunatic asylum (like myself). There is comedy, horror, romance, drama, suspense... it covers it all. It's truly worth checking out.

Here is a posting that I found tonight in Pittsburgh's missed connections, m4w section. I'll spare the picture of the man's truck that he built himself. I don't want to get too personal. I will say that I appreciate that our mystery man likes to "keep it real" (see point number 6)... Definitely sounds like my type of guy. I'm not a nag but if we want this to work long term, the smoking habit might eventually need sorted out. But I can be flexible for the right person (that's what she said).

Missed Connections- Valentine's Day Edition

I admit it. I read the missed connections section on craigslist. It's a fantastic form of entertainment. The posts cover all the genres- humor, horror, romance, etc. Despite Valentine's Day falling on a Monday this year, I imagine the missed connections section of the site will be overflowing with hopeless romantics. I'll be posting the ads that I find the sweetest, funniest and/or creepiest. Perhaps I can help someone find their long lost lover or just the girl they didn't have the courage to hit on at the grocery store. Fingers crossed for some quality postings!

CREEPY/FUNNY:

We work next to each other all day at the office.... - m4w - 30 (Pittsburgh)
Date: 2011-02-14, 4:00PM EST

We work in cubicles near each other all day and everytime I get a chance I steal a glimpse of your ass as you stand up or your breasts as you lean back into your seat. I want nothing more in the world than for you to stay late one day, you always leave early, and have you get on your knees and crawl slowly to me where you would take me in your warm mouth and suck me till I'm drained. If you think this is you reply with the name of the place we work as the subject of the email and I will treat you very very well this weekend.

ROMANTIC... OR NOT:

Beautiful thick girl working at North Hills Adult News on McKnight Rs - m4w - 30 (McKnight Rd)
Date: 2011-02-14, 5:45PM EST

I've gone in there to get serviced in the adult arcade part of the store a few times and noticed you working there, a couple of times you had a friend in there, also thick and chocolatey, talking to you while you worked. I would do anything and I mean ANYTHING for you to join me in the back room the next time I come in there. And if you are too shy or on the clock, this offer is for your friend as well.

LADY LOVE:

Cecilia, Customer Service, Whole Foods, Pittsburgh - w4w

Date: 2011-02-14, 12:13PM EST

Dear Cecilia,

Would you consider having tea with a female CMU student?
I am twenty-seven, health-conscious, and I have a pleasant face.
I consider myself to be a fair and tolerant person.

Thank you.
