Sun in Taurus, April 20 - May 21

Taurus. Oh, Taurus. In all honesty, this is one of the few signs of the Zodiac that I just don't really jive with. As a true Air sign (Aquarius Sun/Mercury/Venus/Jupiter) with a Water dominant chart (Cancer Rising, Moon/Mars in Scorpio...), there isn't much that I connect with when it comes to the Earthy Bull. My Mother (whom I very much love) is a Taurus cusp (April 21); we've always clashed. But there's a positive side to everything and I'm determined to learn more redeeming attributes about this sign.

Those with Sun in Taurus or strong Taurus placement in their chart may possess the following characteristics:
  • Generous
  • Stubborn
  • Down-to-Earth
  • Finances (Extremely Good/Bad)
  • Dependable
  • Materialistic

Sun in Aries, March 21 - April 20

I've often viewed the stereotypical Aries as someone with an overwhelming amount of passion and fire within. One of my earliest crushes from childhood was an Aries- strong, warm, friendly and outgoing. He made my heart race faster than anyone had ever done before.

A good friend whom I lost at a young age was also an Aries male. Always the life of the party and so well loved by everyone he knew.

These days, I work alongside a number of Aries women and have witnessed that they share similarities that may be attributed to their natal chart placement. Independent, spirited and generally well-liked, this is a sign of the Zodiac that is very often in a leadership position.

If you look to someone for advice or at the top of their field, an Aries may likely be there. As I worked on this post, it occurred to me that I quite like the Rams. As an Aquarius, the Air-Fire pairing is rather unstoppable.

Those with Sun in Aries or strong Aries placement in their chart may possess the following characteristics:
  • Courageous
  • Generous
  • Friendly
  • Optimistic
  • Strong
  • Devoted
  • Romantic
  • Moody

Sun in Pisces, February 19 - March 20

I've always been a fan of female Pisces. Three of my best friends in the world were born in the early part of this sign. As I've mentioned before, despite having strong Aquarian (Air) placement in my chart, I'm Water dominant. Perhaps this is the reason that I've always gotten along swimmingly with the Fish people (pun intended). But it's not just me, Pisces have a reputation for being one of the friendliest and most well-liked signs in the Zodiac. Many of the Pisces in my life are among the funniest and most outgoing people I know.

Sun in Aquarius, January 20 - February 18

Aquarius is the sign of the Zodiac that I'm most closely attached. My Sun (February 1), Mercury, Venus and Jupiter are all in Aquarius. Because of these strong placements, I've always felt like a true Aquarian. A common misconception with Aquarius, because it is the sign of the Water Bearer, is that it's a Water sign; in actuality, Aquarius is an Air sign (along with Gemini and Libra).

Those with Sun in Aquarius or heavy 11th house placement in their chart may possess the following characteristics:
  • Progressive

Go Deep: Shia LaBeouf, the Nymphomaniac Interview

Perhaps it's because he shares the same exact birthday with one of my best friends so I know our Gemini-Aquarius compatibility is on point, or maybe it's because I grew up watching him on Even Stevens, but Shia LaBeouf just does it for me.

“The first info we got — and I’ll never forget this because my entire team reacted with such fear — the first request from the production end, not Lars, was for pictures of my penis. Lars goes, ‘Send him the letter. The letter was, ‘Are you game?’ I guess the first test was, ‘Let’s time how long it takes this motherfucker to send his dick over the Internet.’ It was like 20 minutes; they were like, ‘All right, kid’s ready.’”

Sun in Capricorn, December 22 - January 20

Other than having Neptune placed in Capricorn, I never related very much to this sign. To be quite honest, the stereotypical Capricorn is not someone who I'm naturally drawn to. I've always been a dreamer and Capricorns are rather pragmatic. It wasn't until the past year that I even had any close friends who were Capricorns. However, as I continued to study the houses in Astrology, I learned that I actually have Capricorn on the 7th House cusp. The 7th House rules partnerships, relationships and marriages. Many who share this placement find love later in life or are slow to settle down. I like to use this as one of the excuses as to why I haven't found Mr. Right.

Sun in Sagittarius, November 22 - December 21

I have Saturn and Uranus placed in Sag. While I don't generally pay too much attention to the outer planets, I'm an Aquarius Sun. Being that Aquarius is co-ruled by Saturn and Uranus, I do have a powerful Sagittarius connection in that regard. My Jupiter (which rules Sagittarius) is also in my Sun sign of Aquarius. A bit confusing but lots of ties back to Sagittarius.

My Dad is a Sagittarius as was as my beloved childhood dog and some of my best friends from college. Next to Libras, I've always found Sagittarius to be one of the most popular signs of the zodiac. You can always count on them to be fun-loving, full of energy and outgoing. They make some of the best friends you could hope to have.

Sun in Scorpio, October 23 - November 22

My Moon, Mars and Pluto are placed in Scorpio. Despite being an Aquarius, I'm water dominant and I relate very well to this sign. Over the years, I've had a lot of friends and boyfriends who were Scorpios. My shih-tzu is also a Scorpio. I always use this sign as an example as to why it's important to examine your entire natal chart to determine compatibility. Traditionally, Aquarius and Scorpio don't get each other perfectly but I've always liked this sign.

As a number 9 myself (02/01/1986), I found this video to be quite on point. If you're interested in finding out more information on the other life path numbers, Alyssa Sharpe's channel is one of my favorites. My Mother's maiden name was Sharpe so I happen to like her even more because of this connection! :)

Music Monday: Eric Burdon

"Everybody's in a hurry these days. Wouldn't it be great to write a song that says wait, hold on a second."

"27 Forever"

"What are we doing in our lives that makes the age of 27 so important? Is it that we realize that there is no more youth and we're now in the world of being responsible adults? Or it's just an astrological event that has to do with Saturn's return. Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison, Janis Joplin, Robert Johnson, Kurt Cobain and, recently, Amy Winehouse, to name a few. They all died at the age of 27. But every time I hear their voices, they are alive and well in my heart."

"River is Rising"

"Medicine Man"

"Wait"

Eric Burdon, 72-year-old vocal legend from The Animals and War, has released new solo material. Burdon's latest album, 'Til Your River Runs Dry, is one of the best of the year. It can be purchased here.

Mercury Retrograde, I Hate You

There are few things in life that I find the word hate appropriate enough to describe; Mercury Retrograde is one of those things. For those who are unfamiliar with what it exactly means, in Astrology, the planet Mercury rules communication, travel, the mind, our thought processes... a lot of things. When it's in retrograde, life becomes quite prone to setbacks, delays, frustrations and other grievances. Many Astrologers advise people to not travel, sign contracts, start new projects or make any major purchases during this period. I can see why.

During this particular Mercury Retrograde I have personally experienced...

  • My car losing fuel faster than usual
  • Heavy traffic beyond normalcy, bad drivers everywhere
  • Road closures due to Mother Nature (landslide)
  • My Mom fractured her pelvis and was admitted into the hospital
  • A phone interview for work was majorly miscommunicated
  • Other work-related communication issues
  • Bad hair days
  • Slowness/Lethargy
  • Losing two full days of sleep
  • Not fully loving a song by my favorite band (never happened before but it's growing on me)
  • Forgetting about daylight savings time
  • Not finding anything special to gift a friend for her baby shower

& that's just the beginning.

To the average person, this may sound completely frivolous but I stand by my beliefs. For anyone claiming that I could be suffering from some sort of self-fulfilling prophecy, I didn't even realize that Mercury Retrograde was happening until I realized Mercury Retrograde must be happening. There was no app alert or e-mail notification. I can always tell.

In my natal chart, I have Mercury placed in my eighth house which happens to be in my sun sign of Aquarius. I definitely feel its power. When Mercury is backwards, so am I.

Get Lit: NEW TO THE BOOKSHELF!

Yesterday afternoon, I ran some of my usual errands. I went to the bank, bought some wine and then stopped at Borders. I'm really sad that Borders is closing. It's one of the last book stores in my area (and I live in a large city). As someone who spent a lot of her childhood in libraries, it pains me to see that there aren't many places left to buy books. I suppose that it's a sign of the times. The internet is changing the way brick and mortar stores are operating. I question how any stores are surviving these days. Between online retailers and the economy, I wonder how much longer traditional malls will survive. But back to the books...

I spent a couple hours inside the store. The sales weren't that great but I wanted to enjoy the experience of just browsing. Being inside a book store is one of my favorite things to do. It's very relaxing to let your mind wander. My favorite section is Metaphysical Studies. As a total weirdo, I love all things New Age. While in my little niche of the store, there was a guy whose phone rang with my favorite ringtone; Jack Horkheimer's Star Gazer theme song (Arabesque No. 1 by Isao Tomita)! It made me smile to be around like-minded individuals but also sad to think that these types of encounters would be far and few between when I'm stuck ordering from Amazon. When Jack Horkheimer passed away last year, I tried for days to try and find that ringtone! I contemplated asking the man where he found the tune but I was too immersed in Coast to Coast Ghosts by Leslie Rule.

There were so many things I wanted but I only picked up a few of the books & magazines that I knew I'd get around to reading right away.

1. Rider Tarot Deck
One of my best friends, Valerie, and I both love tarot. She gave me a check for my 25th birthday to go towards a new deck. I finally got around to getting it!

2. Sydney Omarr's Aquarius (Day-by-Day Astrological Guide for 2012)
For the past few years, I've bought this book. It's a nice little day-by-day guide to the stars. I highly recommend picking up a copy of your sign's forecast.

3. She Walks in Beauty (A Woman's Journey Through Poems) by Caroline Kennedy
The title jumped out at me because I thought it sounded poetic... turns out I was right. It's an interesting book that includes various poems that correspond to a woman's life. I think it's always good to read about other people's life experiences. With age comes wisdom. Caroline Kennedy surely has lived a life worth reading about.

4. Talking to Girls About Duran Duran: One Young Man's Quest for True Love and a Cooler Hair Cut by Rob Sheffield
I love memoirs. It's probably my favorite genre of literature. A book that talks about life and interweaves music into its core is something I will always give a shot. I haven't read Sheffield's first book yet (I probably should have) but I'm sure this will be good.

5. Harvard Review
This magazine/book is full of interesting thoughts from some of the most gifted people in the country. I enjoy reading into the minds of the highly intellectual. Call me an elitist.

6. Life by Keith Richards
I've heard great things about this book. As I mentioned before, I love a good memoir and who better to read about than someone who has seen it all? Fame is such an unnatural thing. Many people want it but if you step back and realize what it implies, I don't think it's something to aspire towards. A little recognition and notoriety are great but fame on such a grand level seems like a very daunting existence. To not know who is interested in you for "the right reasons" and to have no privacy at all sounds like a death sentence to me.

7. Christie's International Real Estate
If you read my blog regularly, you have probably noticed that I'm into architecture and homes. Maybe it's materialistic but I am intrigued by the lifestyles of the uber wealthy (and conversely people who have nothing). It's fascinating to see how people choose to decorate and how it relates back to their personalities and self-expression.

8. Wine Spectator
I love a good bottle of vino. As I get older, I'm trying to be a better cook. It's nice to know what to serve with what at dinner parties. A magazine is a lot easier (and cheaper) than enrolling in a random "extended learning" course.

Neptune is in Pisces

Via Tarot.com

Astro news alert: Neptune is back in Pisces -- its home sign -- after 149 years moving through the zodiac. So breathe deeply, change is like a fresh breeze. Dreamy Neptune and Pisces each bring spirituality to the forefront and remind us of all that is greater than us in this world. It's time to find spiritual balance and change your Karma for the better. A special Karma Tarot reading reveals the unique karma of any situation you are experiencing right now, and how you can change it. Get the inspiration you need to face any issue -- romance, money, family career and more -- and make the changes to better your karma. Move forward with clarity and confidence as a new Neptune in Pisces era begins.

Via realastrologers.com

With his ego-denying qualities, Neptune could be considered the “anti-Mars.” Whereas Mars stands for war and lust, Neptune is about peace and love . . . well, maybe. It’s hard to know much of the time exactly what Neptune is about, but peace and love are in there somewhere.

Neptune is said to be a higher vibration of Venus, the planet of love, beauty, and harmony, so it’s better still that Venus in Pisces will feed into Neptune for the next three weeks.

The last time Neptune was in Pisces, from 1847 to 1862, the Transcendental Movement flourished in the United States, led by Emerson, Thoreau, Whitman, and others. Spiritualism became a trend, with séances to contact spirits of the dead. Edgar Allen Poe wrote his most famous poem, “The Raven.” The first oil well was drilled. The first surgical operation using general anesthesia was performed. The Opium Wars occurred during this time, and while the conflict wasn’t entirely over the drug, it’s still interesting to note that there was a major war named for a narcotic while Neptune was in Pisces.

This time around, I expect there will be a widespread spiritual awakening. I know I sound like a broken record – I’ve been writing this for more than five years – but I do believe we’re getting closer and closer to understanding what “spirit” is.

2011 Astrological Guide!

This afternoon, Sydney Omarr's 2011 Astrological Guide for Aquarius arrived in the mail! If you know me well, you know that I love astrology. I have always been drawn to it but over the past few years, I have studied it further. I had last year's edition and loved it so much that I had to get it again. It provides a daily horoscope along with a ton of valuable information on the planetary positions and moon phases. Fascinating!

I was excited to read that Jupiter is in Aries in 2011. This is great news for Aquarians. The book said that 2011 is the perfect time to write a book, blog or communicate with people in a tangible way. My goal for this year is to complete my book, blog regularly and start my YouTube channel. The stars are aligned!

Speaking of my book, I am really proud of my progress during this first week of writing! I have about 2,000 words completed and hope to finish my first chapter today or tomorrow! I have read what I have so far to my sister and cousin and both really responded to the material. This made me so happy! :)

I'm expecting a few more things in the mail this week. I'll be writing beauty blogs on those goodies, so be sure to keep a lookout for the new posts!

Love,
Krista
